John Scott

John Scott was born in Roxburghshire in 1895, the son of Thomas Scott, a builder, and his wife Marion. In July 1911 he joined Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Hawick branch.
During the First World War he left his job at the bank to join the army. He died on 13 October 1916 of wounds received in action on the Somme whilst serving as a Private in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He was 21 years old.
John Scott is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
