George Shenton

George Francis Shenton was born in Derby in 1897, the son of John and Julia Shenton. He began working for Parr's Bank in about 1913.

 

In 1915 Shenton left his job at the bank's Derby Corn Market branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the East Yorkshire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 15 May 1917. He was 20 years old.

 

George Shenton is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Allenton Derby branch.
