Donald Stewart was born in Bendochy, Perthshire, in 1896, the son of John Stewart. In February 1913, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Blairgowrie branch.
During the First World War Stewart left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Scots Guards. He was killed in action in Belgium on 31 July 1917. He was 21 years old.
Donald Stewart is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.

The Stewart Family will always keep you in our hearts Donald. We shall gather at the Family Grave in Blairgowrie Cemetary to lay flowers in your honour on 31/07/2017 to mark one hundred years since your death on 31/07/2017. You gave your life so we all might live. There is no greater sacrifice. We shall all meet again in the life to come.
