William Henry Roberts was born on 17 March 1899, the son of John Roberts, a farmer, and his wife Mary. He was educated at St Asaph County School. In October 1915, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its Corwen branch.
During the First World War Roberts left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Cheshire Regiment. He died on 24 October 1918 of wounds received in action in France. He was 19 years old.
