James Hope Robinson

James Hope Robinson was born in Annan in 1899, the son of Joseph and Eliza Robinson. In April 1916 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Annan branch.

 

During the First World War Robinson left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Seaforth Highlanders. He died on 26 July 1918 of wounds received in action in France. He was 18 years old.

 

James Robinson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
