Harry Rostron was born in Bolton in 1888, the son of John Henry Rostron, a brewery manager, and his wife Anne. He worked for Williams Deacon's Bank.
During the First World War Rostron left his job at the bank's Bolton branch to join the army. By 1917 he was a Lance Serjeant in The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, on active service on the Western Front. He was killed in action there on 31 July 1917. He was 28 years old.
Harry Rostron is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Hardman Boulevard office, Manchester.
