Alec Reed

Alec John Reed was born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, in 1897, the son of John Thomas Reed, a law clerk, and his wife Mary Hulme. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank.

 

During the First World War Reed left his job as a clerk at the bank's Scarborough branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry). He died on 5 April 1918 of wounds received in action on the Somme. He was 21 years old.

 

Alec Reed is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
