Stanley George Hardy Purnell was born in Bristol in about 1891. From about 1909 he worked for Parr's Bank.
During the First World War Purnell left his job at the bank's Bath branch to go on military service, and by 1917 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 5 June 1917. He was 26 years old.
Stanley Purnell is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Bath City branch.
