Lindsay Carlton Powell was born on 25 October 1894, the son of Henry James Powell and his wife Margaret. In April 1913, when he was 18 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.
During the First World War Powell left his job as a clerk at the bank's London head office to go on military service . By May 1916 he was a Lieutenant in the Royal Scots Fusiliers, attached to the Royal Flying Corps. While operating as an observer on an F.E.2b plane in France, he died in a combat engagement on 31 May 1916. He was 21 years old.
