James Paris

James Paris was born in Midcalder, Midlothian, on 17 January 1899, the son of William and Christina Paris. In November 1914 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its West Calder branch.
During the First World War Paris left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Tank Corps. He was killed in action in France on 8 August 1918. He was 19 years old.
James Paris is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
