Horace George Plested was born on 14 February 1897. In January 1915, shortly before his 18th birthday, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

In July 1915 Plested left his job as a clerk at the bank's London head office to join the army. By 1916 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Manchester Regiment, on active service in France. He died there on 30 July 1916. He was 19 years old.
