Harold Curtis Penfold was born on 19 December 1898, the son of John Henry Penfold and his wife Adelaide Jane. In April 1915, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for The National Bank.
During the First World War Penfold left his job in the bank's London banking department to go on military service. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 6 November 1918, while serving as a Rifleman in the London Regiment. He was 19 years old.
Harold Penfold is commemorated on a bank war memorial at the Royal Bank of Scotland London Cavendish Square branch.
