Claud Lucian Francis Platt was born in Finchley on 4 February 1883, the son of Wadham Pigitt Platt and his wife Gertrude. In October 1901, when he was 18 years old, he left his post as a schoolmaster at Hurst Lodge School, East Putney, to join London & Westminster Bank as a teller at its London Westminster branch. In January 1902 he transferred to London head office; in August 1902 to London Temple Bar branch; and in May 1903 to London Kensington High Street branch. In October 1908 he returned to head office as a clerk. In 1909 London & Westminster Bank merged with London & County Bank, and Platt became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

In March 1916 Platt left the bank to go on military service, and by 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery. He was killed in action in France on 27 May 1918. He was 35 years old.
