Cecil Edward Pond was born on 17 December 1897, the son of William Pond, a Home Office clerk, and his wife Emily. He was educated at Hornsey County School. In January 1914, when Pond was 16 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its London Piccadilly branch.
In August 1916 Pond went on active service as a Driver in the Honourable Artillery Company. He was killed in action in France on 9 September 1918. He was 20 years old.
