William King Norris was born on 24 June 1889, the son of John Thomas Norris and his wife Annie. In December 1905 he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co, and after some years as a junior he was promoted to a clerkship in 1910.

In October 1915 Norris left his job at the bank's Burslem branch to join the army. By 1917 he was a Serjeant in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He died in France on 27 July 1917, of wounds received in action. He was 28 years old.
