William Thomas Nancarrow was born in London on 11 August 1890, the son of William Thomas Nancarrow, a coach painter, and his wife Elizabeth Ellen. In October 1910, when he was 20 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.
In February 1916 Nancarrow left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Shoreditch branch to go on military service, and by 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Norfolk Regiment, on active service on the Western Front. He died there on 15 April 1918. He was 27 years old and left a widow, Winifred, whom he had married in October 1915.
William Nancarrow is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Liverpool Street Station branch.
