William Henry MacIntosh was born in Edinburgh in 1896, the son of William and Margaret Henry MacIntosh. In August 1913, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Leith branch.
During the First World War MacIntosh joined the army, and by 1918 was a Lieutenant in the Gordon Highlanders. He died of influenza in England on 9 November 1918, two days before the signing of the Armistice. He was 22 years old.
William MacIntosh is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
