Sinclair Mowat

Sinclair Mowat was born in Edinburgh in 1890, the son of Catherine Mowat. From 1908 he worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland, and in November 1913 he was appointed accountant at the bank's Jedburgh branch.

 

During the First World War Mowat left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Serjeant in the Seaforth Highlanders. He was posted to the Western Front in May 1915. He later became a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Flying Corps. He was killed in a flying accident in England on 2 July 1917. He was 26 years old.

 

Sinclair Mowat is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
