Norman Houghton Moreton was born on 17 December 1898, the son of Frederick John Moreton and his wife Harriette Eliza. In February 1915, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

In November 1915 Moreton left his job as a clerk at the bank's London head office to go on military service. Lieutenant Moreton of the Royal Air Force died in Italy on 16 May 1918. He was 19 years old.
