Malcolm MacPhee was born in Scotland in 1898, the son of John MacPhee. In March 1915 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Greenock branch.
During the First World War MacPhee left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 9 December 1917. He was 19 years old.
Malcolm MacPhee is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
