John Ivor Morgan was born near Borth, Cardiganshire, on 19 November 1895, the son of Jonathan Bunce Morgan, a farmer, and his wife Jane. He was educated at Aberystwyth Intermediate School.
In June 1913, when Morgan was 17 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its Lampeter branch. His manager there described him as 'sharp and intelligent. Has a poor hand but a splendid head - a clerk of more than average ability.'
In January 1916 Morgan joined the army, becoming a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery. He was killed in Palestine on 19 September 1918. He was 22 years old.
