John Mitchell

John Leishman Mitchell was born in about 1898, the son of Adam Hunter Mitchell and his wife Margaret Leishman. From around 1914 he worked for Parr's Bank.

 

During the First World War Mitchell left his job in the chief accountant's department at the bank's head office to join the army. By 1917 he was a Second Lieutenant in the London Regiment, on active service in France. He died on 4 June 1917 of wounds received in action on the Somme. He was 19 years old.

 

John Mitchell is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
