John Roddan MacKenzie was born in Holywood, Dumfriesshire in January 1889. He worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland in its London office.
In March 1915 MacKenzie left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in France on 2 March 1916. He was 27 years old.
John MacKenzie is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
