Harry Mason was born in 1894, the son of Abraham and Helen Craig Mason. In 1911 he went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank. He worked for a time at Gorton branch in Manchester, but in 1913 transferred to Manchester Smithfield Market branch.
In April 1916 Mason left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Corporal in the Royal Fusiliers. He died on 14 November 1917, following an operation for appendicitis. He was 23 years old.
In 1921 the bank sent Mason's mother a photograph of its war memorial which included her son's name. She wrote back to thank the bank, saying 'I … shall count it amongst my treasures'.
Harry Mason is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Hardman Boulevard office, Manchester.
