Christopher MacRae was born in 1896, the son of Christopher and Catherine MacRae. In July 1913 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Glasgow Argyle Street branch.
During the First World War MacRae left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Lance Corporal in the Seaforth Highlanders. He died of disease in Mesopotamia on 9 August 1916.
Christopher MacRae is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
