Charles E Martin was born in Hull in about 1897, the son of James and Jessie Martin. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Hull Union Bank branch.

During the First World War Martin left his job at the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the East Yorkshire Regiment. He died at Ypres on 3 May 1915. He was 18 years old.

Charles Martin is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
