Alfred Edison Luton was born on 12 April 1895, the son of Joseph Thomas Luton and his wife Sarah. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Princes Street office. He was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.
In August 1914 Luton joined the army, serving as a Private in the London Regiment in Malta and at Gallipoli. He died on the Western Front on 7 October 1916. He was 21 years old.
Alfred Luton is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives.
