William Kerr

William Kerr was born in Earlston, Berwickshire, in 1899, the son of William and Annie Kerr. In January 1915 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Earlston branch.
During the First World War Kerr left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 12 October 1918. He was 19 years old.
William Kerr is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
