Marcus Addison Koch was born in India in about 1894. He started work for National Provincial Bank of England at the end of July 1914, just a week before the outbreak of the First World War.

During the war Koch joined the army, serving in the King's Shropshire Light Infantry. He was commissioned as a temporary Second Lieutenant in the same regiment in June 1915. He died in Flanders on 22 September 1915.
