Fred Tudor Kitchen was born on 10 July 1890, the son of Harry Kitchen, a bank clerk, and his wife Florence Mary. In May 1906 Kitchen went to work for his father's bank, Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co, as a junior at its Sandbach branch. He was promoted to a clerkship there in 1910, and transferred to Stockport branch in 1913.
In September 1914 Kitchen left the bank to join the army, initially as a Private in the Cheshire Regiment. He was later commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the South Wales Borderers. He died of wounds received in action in France on 28 May 1918. He was 27 years old.
