David Wither Kilpatrick was born in Wigtownshire in 1895, the son of John Kilpatrick and his wife Mary. In September 1910 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Stranraer branch.
In December 1914 Kilpatrick left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Gordon Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 25 September 1915.
David Kilpatrick is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
