Frederick Palgrave Jones was born in Lancashire in 1886, the son of Harry Jones, a chartered accountant, and his wife Martha Elizabeth. From about 1902 he worked for Parr's Bank.
During the First World War Jones left his job at the bank's Eccles branch to join the army, and by 1917 he was a Serjeant in the King's Shropshire Light Infantry, on active service in Palestine. He died there on 7 November 1917. He was 30 years old.
Frederick Jones is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Eccles branch.

Fred was our Great Uncle and is remembered in Chester Cathedral and at Overleigh Cemetery in Chester with a headstone that he shares with his parents.
We are direct decedents of Fred and remembered him on the 7th November 2017 by laying a wreath in Chester Cathedral to commentate 100 years since his falling.
