Frank Charles James was born on 18 February 1890, the son of Frederick John James and his wife Emily Alice. In October 1907, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank and James became an employee of London County & Westminster Bank.
In November 1915 James left his job as a clerk at the bank's London head office to join the army, becoming a Private in the 26th (Bankers') Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 7 October 1916. He was 26 years old.
