Edgar Wilkinson Jones was born in Mold, Flintshire, on 8 August 1890, the son of Thomas and Fanny Jones. In 1907, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England.

During the First World War Jones left his job at the bank's Colwyn Bay branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the York and Lancaster Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 9 April 1917. He was 26 years old.
