Cecil Otway Reid Jacob was born on 13 March 1891. In June 1908, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Jacob became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

Outside work Jacob was a territorial soldier. He was mobilised at the outbreak of war in 1914, leaving his job at the bank's London Brixton Hill branch to go on active service. Captain Cecil Otway Reid Jacob of the Devonshire Regiment, attached to the Lincolnshire Regiment, was killed in France by a shell explosion on 29 November 1917. He was 26 years old.
