William Clifford Irving was born on 2 January 1897. In January 1913 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank at its Manchester Piccadilly branch. In February 1914 he transferred to Stockport branch.
In July 1916 Irving left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Welsh Regiment. He died in hospital in England on 2 December 1917 as a result of trench fever. He was 20 years old.
