Thomas Stalker Happer was born in Dalkeith in 1897, the only son of William R Happer, an assurance superintendent, and his wife Ann. In February 1915 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Juniper Green branch near Edinburgh.
In November 1915 Happer left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Private in the Lothians and Border Horse. He died of disease in England on 30 April 1916. He was 19 years old.
Thomas Happer is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
