Sidney Thomas Haywood was born in London on 17 May 1899, the son of Frederick and Caroline Haywood. In November 1915, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for The National Bank.
During the First World War Haywood left his job at the bank's Willesden branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the London Regiment. He died on 18 August 1918 of wounds received in action on the Western Front. He was 19 years old.
Sidney Haywood is commemorated on a bank war memorial at the Royal Bank of Scotland London Cavendish Square branch.
