Kirk Hearder was born in Carmarthen on 9 June 1883, the son of Dr George Jonathan Hearder and his wife Marie. In June 1900, four days before his 17th birthday, Hearder went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its Haverfordwest branch. In December 1905 he moved to Newport, Monmouth branch.
In 1912 Hearder married Mary Louisa Weights. They had a daughter together, Marie, born in 1913.
At the outbreak of the First World War Hearder joined the army, becoming a Serjeant in the Monmouthshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 8 May 1915. He was 31 years old.
