John Hughes

John Meirion Hughes was born in Wales in 1896, the son of Thomas Isfryn Hughes, a Wesleyan Methodist minister, and his wife Catherine. In 1913 he went to work for Parr's Bank at its Fairfield branch and Tue Brook sub-branch.
In September 1915 Hughes left the bank to join the army, serving in the South Lancashire Regiment. He later became an officer in the Royal Flying Corps (later the Royal Air Force). Lieutenant Hughes was killed while flying on the Western Front on 16 June 1918. He was 21 years old.
