John Hendry

John Walker Hendry was born in Dalry, Ayrshire, in 1893, the son of William Hendry, a pattern maker, and his wife Margaret Stuart Hendry. In April 1911 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Beith branch.
During the First World War Hendry joined the army, becoming a Lance Corporal in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 18 April 1918.
John Hendry is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
