Joe Leslie Hicks was born on 20 October 1894, the son of Harry John Hicks and his wife Gertrude. In 1913 he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank, where his uncle Frank Hicks was an employee.
In February 1915 Hicks left his job as a clerk at the bank's Huntingdon branch to join the army, becoming a Serjeant in the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 13 November 1916. He was 22 years old.
Joe Hicks is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Huntingdon branch.

I work at Huntingdon Branch now and researched Joe displaying his memorial in France for the now Staff and customers. It is lovely to now see a picture to keep this young man's memory alive.
