James Hutcheson was born in Blackfriars, Lanarkshire, in 1895. In July 1911 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Glasgow Hutchesontown branch, and later at Glasgow Argyle Street branch.
During the First World War Hutcheson left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Lance Corporal in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). He was killed in action in France on 21 May 1917.
James Hutcheson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
