Frederick Sydney Harding was born in Lancashire in 1892, the son of Frederick James Harding, an accountant, and his wife Sarah. From about 1908 he worked for Parr's Bank.
In the first week of September 1914 Harding left his job at the bank's Manchester branch to go on military service, becoming a Private in the Manchester Regiment. He was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was 25 years old.
Frederick Harding is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Manchester City Centre branch.
