Frank Allen Heap was born in Northampton in 1897, the son of William Heap, a builder and contractor, and his wife Minnie. In December 1913 he went to work for Northamptonshire Union Bank.

In 1914 Heap left his job at the bank's Thrapston branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the Northamptonshire Regiment. He was posted to France in August 1915. He was killed in action there on 17 August 1916. He was 18 years old.
