Edgar Hall was born in 1890, the son of John Robert Hall, a commercial clerk, and his wife Jane. He was educated at Miss Pickford's school, Carnforth and the Royal Grammar School, Lancaster. In February 1908 he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co at its Dalton in Furness branch. Outside work, he was secretary of both Dalton Cricket Club and Warton Tennis Club.
During the First World War Hall left the bank to go on military service. Private Edgar Hall of the King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) was killed in action in France on 8 August 1916. He was 26 years old.
