Archibald Brown Low Harley was born in 1895, the son of Henry S Harley, a book keeper, and his wife Janet. He was educated at Kirkcaldy High School. In June 1911 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland. From November 1912 he was an apprentice at its Kirkcaldy Pathhead branch.
During the First World War Harley left the bank to go on military service as a Private in the Fife and Forfar Yeomanry. He died of typhoid fever at Port Said, Egypt on 18 November 1915.
Archibald Harley is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
