Walter Michael Goodrich was born in Grimsby in 1897, the son of Henry and Matilda Goodrich. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Grimsby Docks Smiths Bank branch.

During the First World War he left the bank to join the army, and by 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Manchester Regiment. He died in France on 25 March 1918. He was 20 years old.

Walter Goodrich is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
