Samuel Greenwood was born in 1881, the son of James and Emma Greenwood. In about 1907 he went to work for Parr's Bank as a messenger.
In June 1916 Greenwood left his job at the bank's Southport branch to go on military service, in the course of which he was awarded the Military Medal. Corporal Samuel Greenwood of the Lancashire Fusiliers was killed in action in France on 30 September 1918. He was 37 years old and left a widow, Bertha, and a 12-year-old son, Ronald.
