Ronald Hanson Goldsbrough was born on 6 November 1895, the son of William Goldsbrough, a railway manager, and his wife Annie. He was educated at Coatham Grammar School.

 

In October 1911, not long before his 16th birthday, Goldsbrough went to work as an apprentice in the Post Office Savings Bank. Later, in June 1913, he moved to National Provincial Bank of England, working as an apprentice in its Middlesbrough branch. He later transferred to Middlesbrough Linthorpe Road branch.

 

In June 1915 Goldsbrough left the bank to join the army, serving as a Serjeant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He was killed in France on 15 September 1916. He was 20 years old.
